We assessed the efficacy of amlodipine treatment on 20 patients with stable angina pectoris. Amlodipine reduced the number of anginal attacks, nitroglycerine consumption, and ameliorated a subjective score of well-being. Amlodipine also increased duration of exercise, time to angina, time to ST segment changes, and decreased the duration as well as the extent of ST depression. We conclude that calcium chanenl blocker amlodipine with once daily dosage and long plasma half-life is effective in the treatment of ischemic heart disease.
