Structural Analysis of Galata Bridge Angling Fishery: Fishing Gears, Catch Per Unit Effort and Sociological Characteristics

Abstract
In this research, fishing gears which are widely used in angling fishery and their structures, catch per unit effort (CPUE) and social conditions of fishermen were examined and determined at Galata Bridge between June and August 2014 where fishing activities at the bridge carried out. The study was conducted wit h the aid of one to one interviews and observations with the fishermen in the region. Especially. in terms of number of people who are fishing in this selected low season, having different structure fishing lines called as horse mackerel (51.35%), mullet (19.82W, picarel (18.02%), whiting (8.11%), bonito (1.80%) and pilchard (0.90%) have been determined. The mean CPUE values were calculated as 0.25 kg h(-1), 0.25 kg h(-1), 0.33 kg h(-1), 0.24 kg h(-1), 0.36 kg h(-1) and 0.67 kg h(-1) respectively. it was found that the fish line length was between 1.5 5 m, the line thicknesses were between 0.10-0.80 mm and the sinks were between 30-100 g. It was determined that 3.5 m fish line length (26.3V, 0.15 mm line thickness (17.82%), transparent monofilament line (87.39%) and 60 g sink (32.43%) were mostly used. It was also determined that G-hooks were used with the percentage of 72.07 and J-hooks were used with the percentage of 27.93. The distribution of people who are fishing on the bridge were investigated in terms of age, education, marital status, the number of individuals in their families, the number of individuals working in the family, the current working conditions, the length of time they fish during their lifetime, the time they spent. fishing in years, and the information on fishing intentions and angling. It was determined that 81.6% of the anglers were fishing for resting, 11.4% for resting and commercial purposes. and 7% for commercial purposes
