Initial evaluation of surgical neonate: How to handle?

Abstract

It is important to evaluate the status of cardiorespiratory system, termoregulation of the neonate, electrolyte and acid-base balance, fluid requirements and surgical strategy against infection and sepsis. Pediatric surgeons and neonatologists has to be in a team work to get rid of the preoperative and postoperative problems of surgical newborns. Close relation and coordination is between these two branches is extremely necessary. (Turk Arch Ped 2010; 45 Suppl: 9-11)
