Adolescent Suicide, Risk Factors and Nursing Approach
Abstract
Adolescence is a complex period that is initiated with rapid growth and development, and shapes role and profession orientation. Suicide is the act of ending one's life as a result of the interaction of many personal and environmental factors. In our country, adolescent suicides rank the second among the mortality causes during adolescence and it is a health problem that should be dealt with since its prevalence has been in the increase. Biopsycho- social, socio-cultural and environmental factors play key roles in adolescent suicides. As members of the health team, nurses carry important responsibilities in determining the risk factors that lead the adolescent to suicide and preventing suicides. The current article examined adolescent suicides, the effective risk factors, methods used by the adolescent to commit suicide and the nursing approaches used to prevent adolescent suicides.
