Abstract
© Turkiyat Mecmuasi. All rights reserved. The Book of Traveler "Seyyâhnâme," written during 1835-1837 by an Ottoman statesman, describes the British education system, economy, politics, and technology during the period and explains general features of the city of London. The work remains unpublished and is currently in the form of a handwritten manuscript - the autographed copy of which was presented to the sultan of the time. Although the work states that it also aims to highlight the diplomatic tactics of the British State in order to seize India and the differences between England and France, information on these issues is relatively limited. While providing information about England and London, the author includes many statistical tables and watercolor paintings that we believe he produced. In addition, through statistical tables, the work provides the names of universities, their number of students and teachers, and the number of books in their libraries. Furthermore, the work offers unique information on university education and administration and teaching practices within the University of Cambridge, where we believe the author studied at the time. In this context, we examine the choices of the author's terminology and expression strategies about the British and French education system by identifying and analyzing the words, phrases, and morpho-structural elements that emerge within the text.
