Abstract
In this study, the usability of zeolite as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) due to its high amorphous silica and alumina content and the effect of heat treatment on pozzolanic activity (PA) of the zeolite were investigated detail. The chemical analysis of zeolite sample was determined using X-ray fluorescence method. In addition, a change in physical properties as a function of increasing temperature was determined using thermal gravimetric analysis. The zeolite sample was finely ground (- 10 mu m) and divided into two groups. The first group was used as a natural pozzolanic material (NZ), and the second group was first heated up to 1000 degrees C and cooled suddenly, then used as a reactivated pozzolanic material (HZ). Three types of mortar containing different ratios of natural zeolite (NZ) and heated zeolite (HZ) samples replaced with PC were prepared to determine the PA of zeolite. Compressive strength measurements were also performed for CM, NZ, and HZ samples at 28 days curing time. The results from this study showed that zeolite can be a good alternative sample as an SCM, and the heat treatment and flash cooling process to reactivate the PA of zeolite increase the strength activity index of the mortars.
