Background. Curcumin is an anti-oxidant molecule known to be a potent inhibitor of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B). It has been shown to attenuate ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in several organ systems. In this study, we sought to investigate the effects of curcumin on the prevention of superior mesenteric artery I/R injury in rats.
