Ayvalik in the General Election of 1946

Abstract

The Soviet Union, one of the two most powerful States in World War II together with the USA after the end of the war, have made a number of demands on Turkey. It started to put pressure on Turkey, especially about the Straits. In the face of this attitude of the Soviets, Turkey was in search for an ally from the West. In this quest, the United States emerged as the country where could be an ally. While efforts were made to build relationships with the USA on one hand, it was sought to establish democracy in Turkey through multi-party-life because of various foreign policy concerns in Turkey by multiparty life on the other hand.
