dc.description.abstractThe application of high alumina materials with additions of spinel and/or spinel forming magnesia as wear linings in steel ladles has increased in recent years. Resistance to steel slag is the most important criterion when selecting a suitable material. In the present study, two different high alumina spinel castable refractories were examined for their wear resistance against steel ladle slag under laboratory conditions. The influences of mechanical properties and chemical composition on the wear mechanism are discussed. Although the addition of natural periclase (MgO) increases the porosity, it has been determined that it also decreases the slag corrosion of the refractory.
