Injuries to the facial bones, orbits and adjacent soft tissue structures are common in Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery practice. This paper retrospectively reviews the 232 maxillofacial trauma patients treated between 1998-2007 in our department. Of the 232 patients, 77.6 % (n:180) was male, 22.4% was (n: 50) female. In 78.5 % (182) of cases only one fascial bone was fractured; in 21.5 % (n: 50) of cases more then one fascial bone was fractured. The etiology of the maxillofascial fracture was traffic accident in 39.2 % (n: 91), assault in 32.3 % (n: 75), fall in 21.1 % (n: 49) and other causes in 7.4 % (17). Assaults were the main etiological cause of fascial fractures in male patients whereas traffic accidents were main cause in female. The mandible was the most fractured (63.8 %, n: 148) among the fascial bones which is followed respectively by zygoma and maxilla (27.1 %, n: 63), orbita (%, n: 30), nasal and nasoethmoidoorbital fractures (11.2, n: 26).
