TWO-YEAR RECORD OF POLLEN MONITORING IN FAGUS ORIENTALIS FOREST (NW TURKEY)

Abstract

This study was carried out in native oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) forests (NW Turkey), which are located in the north of Thrace on the Strandzha mountains. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between modern pollen distribution and modern vegetation in this forest. For this purpose, Tauber pollen traps were collected from three different sample areas between 2011 and 2013. The protocol of European Pollen Monitoring Programme (EMPM) was followed in the laboratory methodology. The highest pollen influx (cm(2)/year) was found in the traps for the period of 2012-2013. As a result of this study, the annual arboreal pollen influxes of Fagus, Carpinus, Quercus, Acer, Corylus and Crategus was higher in the years of 2011-2013, respectively. Two-year record of pollen influx of these pollen traps reflects the current vegetation.
