Penetrating keratoplasty in geriatric age at a tertiary referral center in IstanbulPoster DetailsFirst Author: E.AltinkurtTURKEYCo Author(s): A. Ugurlu Abstract DetailsPurpose:To evaluate the indications and outcomes of penetrating keratoplasty in elderly patients and to compare younger geriatric patients with super geriatric patients.Setting:Istanbul University Faculty of MedicineMethods:Data of 489 eyes of 427 patients who underwent penetrating keratoplasty surgery between August 2010 to July 2015 at Istanbul University Faculty of Medicine were studied. 90 eyes of 81 patients older than 65 years old who followed at least for one year were accepted to the study. Patients were divided into two groups. Between 65-79 years old as Group I and over 80 years old and older as Group II.Results:Group I included 66 eyes and Group II included 24 eyes. Bullous keratopathy was the most common indication in both groups (Group I 34,9%, Group II 66,7%, p=0,036). Secondary glaucoma after surgery (Group I 18,2%, Group II 15,6%, p=0,254) and the graft survival (Group I 29,9 Â± 15,8 months ,Group II 26,7 Â± 13,2 months, p=0,374) was not significantly different between two groups. The graft rejection and failure rates between groups were analyzed and no difference was found between them (p= 0,531 chi square:0,392 for greft rejection, p=0,699 chi square=0,150 for greft failure). Conclusions:Bullous keratopathy as an indication for penetrating keratoplasty is significantly more common in super geriatric patients and the outcomes of penetrating keratoplasty in super geriatric patients are as good as in younger geriatric patients.Financial Disclosure:NONEBack to Poster listingHomeAboutAboutESCRS Bye LawsESCRS BoardESCRS MembershipRelated LinksPrivacy PolicyPublicationsEuroTimesJCRSEuroTimes (Russia)EuroTimes (India)EuroTimes (Turkey)Lisbon '17MeetingsLisbon 2017Maastricht 2017Copenhagen 2016Athens 2016Barcelona 2015Istanbul 2015London 2014Ljubljana 2014Amsterdam 2013Warsaw 2013EducationESCRS PlayerAbstractsMembershipInformationJoin ESCRSRenew MembershipESCRS Membership BenifitsOn DemandESCRS YO'sESONTESCRSWebsite Links:
