In the present work, used tires were converted into activated carbon and the adsorption of benzene sulphonate, naphthalene sulphonate and naphthalene disulphonate onto this activated carbon was studied. The adsorption process of each solute followed the first order Lagergren equation. Rate constants of intraparticle diffusion were calculated. The experimental data points were fitted to the Langmuir equation and the values of the constants of the Langmuir isotherm were calculated. In order to understand the adsorption mechanism Giles isotherm was used and adsorption type for each solute was determined. The heat of adsorption for each solute was calculated and these values showed that the adsorption process for each solute was exothermic adsorption. The thermodynamic parameters also showed the feasibility of the adsorption process for each solute.
