Looking at the Notion of Identity from Different Windows
Özet
Identity is described as a multidimensional, wide-ranging and difficult to define concept. In this paper, the book Kimlik, Taninma Miicadelesi ye Sarkiyatcilik (Identity, Struggle for Recognition and Orientalism) belonging to Firat Mollaer was analysed. Mollaer addressed the issue of identity in the context of the struggle for recognition. Besides, he related this form of struggle with Orientalism, based on Edward Said's studies on it. Thus, identity became the subject of his study different from the conventional ways of handling it. Moreover, in the book, the issue of how identity constructs itself with dissimilarities is explained in different forms of policy. In this way, the phenomenon of identity has been subjected to scrutiny not only as a conceptual but also as a form of policy. In this sense, it is likely that the identity in the work will be handled with different dimensions historically, socially and philosophically and will inspire the studies to be carried out on this subject in the future in terms of providing a multidimensional approach..
