An insight into past climate via a fossil tree
Özet
Macroscopic and microscopic examinations were carried out on the diagnostic characteristics of petrified trees found at the Big Gala Lake near Enez in. the European part of Turkey. The trees belong to the White Oak group. The formation in which these petrified trees were found indicates that the material belongs to the Upper Miocene. Quercus taxa of similar morphological characteristics are presently growing in the area where the petrified material was found, which would indicate that the climate of the era was similar to that of today.
