AN OVERVIEW OF SOME ART ACTIVITIES IN TURKEY IN THE FIRST DECADE OF 21 ST CENTURY

Abstract

In this study, by going through the activities of Turkish artists who had been most talked about, most appreciated or most criticized in Turkey at the first decade of 21st Century, we tried to identify the subjects they studied and their area of interests. Artists of our day followed modern artists who had deconstructed painting and sculpture at the 20th Century, and their areas of interest still overlap with the areas of interest of painting, even if they are now using different means of expression in the 21st Century. In that context, even when they say "Painting is dead", we can see that our artists still keep their bonds with the issues of painting like figure, dimension and space.
